Is it a challenge putting YOU first as a parent?

As a mom, you’re often putting everyone else’s needs first before your own. But did you know prioritizing your health and happiness is a key ingredient to making motherhood that much more special?

Strength training is one way to put you first, and it has a positive domino effect on every aspect of your life.

HERE ARE 5 WAYS STRENGTH TRAINING CAN MAKE YOU A STRONGER MOM:

1. YOU BUILD PHYSICAL STRENGTH TO PLAY WITH YOUR KID

It’s easy to forget that the movements in the gym translate into your real life.

A squat? That’s your lower body and core strength to pick your kids toys up without risk of injuring your back.

A push-up? You’re building upper body strength to carry your kids around every time they ask to be picked up.

Kettlebell swings? You’re building explosiveness and cardiovascular endurance to run after your kid on their bike.

When you build strength in the gym, you’re directly applying that strength outside of it.

2. YOU’RE INSTILLING THE VALUE OF HEALTH IN YOUR KID

The benefits of exercise are endless for people of all ages, and especially for kids. Exercise reduces the risk of depression, behavioural health disorders, disease, injury and more.  When your kid is raised in an environment where physical health is a priority, you are instilling the value of movement in them from a young age.

3. YOUR STRESS DECREASES & YOU IMPROVE EMOTIONAL HEALTH

Although the most rewarding job, parenting is also the most stressful. Did you know stress can impact how you show up as a parent, partner, friend, and more?

Fitness is an extremely reliable way to combat stress. Consistent workouts can reduce cortisol levels in your brain and replace it with serotonin. By building a strong body, you are also building a strong mind, which leads to better relationships, especially when it comes to parenting!

This might look like:

  • Having more patience and energy with your kid
  • Having greater ability to problem-solve tough situations with your kid or partner
  • Being more present in your relationship – they grow up fast!

4. YOUR CONFIDENCE AS A PARENT GROWS

It’s not easy to feel confident as a parent – you’re regularly navigating new and unique territory. But it’s essential for living a life with joy, self-compassion and love.

In the right fitness community, strength training is empowering as f***. Who here has lifted a 50+ lbs weight off the ground? How did you feel? Amazing, I hope. This process is building your confidence to be lifting heavier and getting stronger.

The same way your physical strength in the gym translates to your everyday movements, your confidence built from strength training is directly improving your confidence in everyday life, like parenting.

5. INCREASES YOUR BODY’S LONGEVITY

Did you know after age 40, your bone mass declines by approximately 1% per year , increasing your proneness to pain and injury?

Many moms still have young kids at this age, and most can probably agree on the importance of feeling physically strong around your kid(s) until at least age 13. Strength training can drastically slow this reality of aging by:

  • Increasing the integrity of your bones and connective tissues
  • Promoting muscle growth (which helps you move)
  • Improving joint health

Strength training helps you move through life, quite literally, in better quality. It is an investment in your future body and allows you to stay physically strong for your kiddos in years to come.

STRENGTH TRAINING IS TRULY TRANSFORMATIVE.

Although not easy to start or stay consistent, once you have found a routine, strength training can impact every element of your life. It connects you back to you. You show up better for yourself, and as a result, you show up better for those around you, especially your kid(s).
