On February 8th, 2020 our very own Cassie Day and Casey Zavaleta, alongside Dr. Amrita Ghai hosted us in Finding Food Freedom, a Fireside Chat focused on creating awareness around disordered eating. We want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who attended the event. The space felt warm and safe and was very welcoming. We appreciate your willingness to connect and share your own experiences with us.

During this talk, we heard the empowering story of Casey’s personal journey through her eating disorder and Cassie’s experience as a coach and fitness ambassador. We want to take a moment to thank them for being so open and real and for sharing with us. It became evident that eating disorders affect people of all ages, genders, sizes, classes and religions and that you never really know who may be suffering. We also want to emphasize the importance of recognizing everyone’s unique life journey and that it is okay to have goals. You are allowed to make choices in regards to your health and if you would like to chat more about them, please reach out to us and we would be more than happy to talk about them with you.

During the talk, Dr. Amrita educated us on the importance of speaking up and talking about the issues we may be experiencing. She provided insight on how to support those around us who may be experiencing disordered eating or an eating disorder and steps we can take ourselves to analyze and heal our relationship with food. We feel powerful and grateful as a community for taking a lead in having this conversation, as it is a tremendously important one and often not talked about enough. With all of the talk on diet culture (can anyone else hear Cassie saying “F** diet culture”!!), it’s time we break the stigma about how these issues affect us and raise awareness together.
