All Day Fit hosted their second annual fundraiser in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada and it was one for the books.
A big thank you to everyone who donated, came out to dance and to our instructor, Katie, who led us through Lizzo’s sassy song Juice.
Cystic Fibrosis is an invisible illness that predominantly affects the lungs and digestive system but can vary from person to person and currently there is no cure.
In Canada, there’s about 4,370 people living with CF and 16% are adults over the age of 40.
With everything happening in the world, I still wanted to take this time to reflect on Black Lives Matter. Cystic fibrosis is known to be a predominantly Caucasian disease of European origin. A woman I follow on social media, Teena Mobley, was diagnosed with CF at the age of 10. She was practically on her death bed because they were treating her for asthma. Doctors never considered that she had CF as it is not a common disease in the black community. I often wonder if that was one reason I was misdiagnosed for 16 years and did not receive the proper treatment.
In 2008, screening all babies for CF became a standard practice. I think it is important to understand that any person of colour can have CF, it is an illness that can affect any race of gender.
Together we raised over $2100 for Cystic Fibrosis Canada! We couldn’t have done this without your support and I really appreciate your generous donation.
Let’s make CF stand for CURE FOUND!!!
